The Last Expedition
The true story of Wanda Rutkiewicz, the first woman in the world and the first person from Poland on the highest peaks of the world – told by herself. Wanda entered the male world of high-mountain expeditions without an invitation and paid the highest price for it. The director of the film, who is a climber herself, sets off to the Himalayas in Wanda's footsteps. The clue to the search is the heroine's audio diary found among a pile of archival materials. Wanda disappeared 30 years ago. Her body was never found. Some say she stayed in a Buddhist monastery. The film explores her life and mystery with the participation of famous climbers: Reinhold Messner, Krzysztof Wielicki and Carlos Carsolio, as well as women close to her: sister Janina Fies and manager Marion Feik.

Thea Hvistendahl’s feature debut breathes new life into the worn-out genre, because by making zombies heroes, it redirects our attention from the living dead to the living dead – people who have lost their loved ones. It is despair that alienates, pain that prevents contact, suffering that takes away the will to live, guilt that torments endlessly – all this makes you a resident of an existential limbo, a real ghost. When VHS tapes appeared on the British market, the censorship decided to sift out the forbidden fruit, i.e. films filled with violence and nudity - and at the same time punish anyone who distributed them. As a result, a legendary list of 72 films banned by the British authorities was created. In his book "Video Nasties. Banned Films", Łukasz Karaś describes the phenomenon of titles suspended by British censorship and presents the behind-the-scenes of the creation of the infamous list.
