The final part of a trilogy about a Portuguese society disappointed by political changes, sinking into recession. I wanted to make a film in which I could present an unreal, seductive story. But I was equally keen to include a story about the severe crisis my homeland is currently in - confessed Gomes, considered one of the most interesting voices of the new Portuguese cinema. In the third part of the series, he focuses on the story of Scheherazade, who escapes from the palace of the Sultan. He juxtaposes her love affairs with, among others, a story about unemployed men preparing their birds for a singing contest and images of anti-government demonstrations in Lisbon in November 2013, presented from the perspective of a Chinese woman. As in other parts, the director imbues this symbolic story with subtle irony, humor and melancholy. Hypnotizing the viewer with sun-heated frames, like in a fado song, it shifts the focus to what is hidden in loss and unfulfillment.
