In Night on Earth, Jarmusch presents five stories that take place simultaneously in different time zones, on different continents and in countries whose inhabitants speak different languages. Each episode is filled with a night taxi ride. During this journey, an interest, a kind of bond, develops between the taxi driver and his passengers, which is however definitively broken when the passengers leave the taxi. The film begins in Los Angeles at the moment when day gives way to night. Then, together with the characters, we wander through the New York, Parisian and Roman nights. The end of the film is also the end of a winter night in Helsinki. We travel - for real and in our imagination - to achieve what is essentially impossible - to be in several places at once, to overcome time.
