Fred Madison, a saxophonist living with his wife Renee, begins to receive mysterious video tapes recording their home - first from the outside, then from the inside. When Renee is brutally murdered, Fred is thrown into prison accused of her death. In his cell, an inexplicable event occurs - Fred disappears, and in his place appears another man.
