Because of a mysterious letter, Šarlota returns to her native village in the Slovak mountains to inherit her deceased mother. The village community, still believing in witches, treats her with suspicion and prejudice. It is only in the freethinker Mira that she finds an ally and friend who helps her piece together the puzzle of her tangled biography, which brings back traumatic memories. The more the two women delve into the secrets of the village, the more they are suspected of witchcraft.
