West Berlin during the Cold War. Mark and Anna are going through a marital crisis caused by the man's long absence and the woman's affair. The woman neglects their common child and falls into increasingly extreme emotional states that make it difficult to communicate. Mark tries to find out what is the reason for his wife's strange behavior and save their relationship. The situation becomes complicated when he meets Helen - who looks exactly like his wife.
