At night, on the rooftops of Tel Aviv—far removed from official statements and cameras—past and present members of the Israeli military apparatus speak about the systems they helped create and operate. Their accounts reveal the decision-making mechanisms that lead to the mass killing of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip—from the procedures and technologies employed to the way in which responsibility for human life is diffused among individuals, data, and algorithms.
The film is the work of Yuval Abraham, a filmmaker and investigative journalist, and Rachel Szor, a director and cinematographer. Both are among the four creators behind *No Other Land*—one of the most talked-about documentaries in recent years, which won the 2025 Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
The project is the result of more than three years of journalistic and investigative work. Many of the findings uncovered by the filmmakers during the production process were published as they emerged by *The Guardian*, in collaboration with the Israeli-Palestinian magazine *+972* and *Local Call*. *The Guardian* also served as one of the film’s producers, underscoring its unique fusion of documentary cinema and investigative journalism.
