Young FBI cadet Clarice Starling (played by the sensational Jodie Foster) is tasked with catching a serial killer called Buffalo Bill. To this end, she is sent to Dr. Hannibal Lecter (an iconic performance by Anthony Hopkins), an imprisoned psychopath and cannibal who may be able to help identify the killer.
The relationship between Starling and Lecter deviates from the usual acquaintance and is based on a dangerous psychological game. Lecter analyzes Clarice's traumas, in exchange for which he offers clues leading to Buffalo Bill's capture.
