In 1918, World War I is ending, but the flu pandemic is raging in the USA. In the shadow of the lockdowns at the time, a mysterious chef, Floyd Monk (played by the charismatic Peter Sarsgaard), appears in the palatial estate of a self-important landowner. A disturbing suspicion quickly arises that Floyd may be skilled at using knives and other dangerous tools not only in the kitchen and not only for cooking.
Monk's Machiavellian intrigues and manipulations lead to a gradual change in the balance of power and domestic power relations. A real game of hopscotch and a trek up and down the social ladder begins. Beautiful sets and costumes create a setting for a brilliant combination of comedy and thriller with an energy that, according to foreign critics, could be the basis for a subversive comedy series.
