Jessie is about to go on vacation with her mother and younger sister, but she sneaks out to a party with her boyfriend, Lux. Under the influence of drugs, they climb onto the roof of a high-rise building to watch the sunrise. After Lux falls asleep, Jessie approaches the edge, falls, and dies. A year later, her mother, Ella, and sister, Melli, are sticking to their daily routines and seem to be coping, after a fashion. When Lux reappears in their lives, Ella cannot bring herself to admit that she blames him for her daughter’s death, while he cannot bring himself to express how desperately he needs her forgiveness.
